From December 10 to 23, 2023, our PhD student MA Hubert Binnebesel completed a research internship at the Autonomous University of Madrid.

On 01-31/12/2023 our PhD student M.Sc. Sara Mandera was on a research internship with Dr. Michael Brandl at the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna.

Just before Christmas, the next volume of JAS:Reports was published online, including our article about the discovery of another place where chocolate flint can be found in the central part of the Krakow-Częstochowa Upland. We invite you to read.

On October 19-20, 2023, Hubert Binnebesel, a PhD student of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, took part in the 12th International Scientific Conference „Strategies and Methods in Archaeological Research” of „Readings by Jonas Puzinas”

The 57th Speleological Symposium was held on October 12-15, 2023 in Lewin Kłodzki, in the picturesque scenery of the Table Mountains. As every year, archaeologists from the Nicolaus Copernicus University, involved in cave research, also took part in it.

On September 5-9, 2023, researchers from the Institute of Archeology of the Nicolaus Copernicus University: Dr. Magdalena Sudoł-Procyk, Dr. Jon Baczkowski, Hubert Binnebesel, MA and Kacper Baranowski, took part in the 20th UISPP World Congress, which took place in Timișoara, Romania. The International Union of Prehistoric and Protohistoric Sciences (Union Internationale des Sciences Préhistoriques et Protohistoriques - UISPP) is a global, interdisciplinary congress bringing together scientists related to pre- and protohistoric sciences.

We invite you to a lecture by Dr. Magdalena Sudoł-Procyk entitled "Chocolate flint outcrops in the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland. The state of knowledge about the extraction, use and distribution of recommendations in prehistory and research perspectives".

The lecture will take place on November 29, 2022 at 10.30 in the hall Roman Jakimowicz, Institute of Archeology of the Nicolaus Copernicus University

Taking advantage of the beautiful autumn weather, we conducted on October 17-22, 2022 surface research in the south-eastern part of the Ryczowska Upland. Their aim was to verify the prehistoric settlement in terms of the use of chocolate flint. As you can see in the pictures, the tests confirmed the presence of artifacts from this raw material.

Between October 13-16, 2022 in Podlesice poviat Zawiercie, the 56^th Speleological Symposium was held. It was attended by geologists, geomorphologists, speleologists, palaeontologists and archaeologists.

Between June 20-24, 2022 interdisciplinary international symposium “Valleys of Prehistory” (French “Vallées de Préhistoire”) was orginized in the area of Verdon Regional  Natural Park (Provence, France). Among others, prehistoric chocolate flint mine in Poręba Dzierżna 24 has been presented.

On April 26-30, 2022, in the area of Załęże and Pradła, we were looking for outcrops of flint raw materials, including chocolate flint. It was possible to positively verify several points designated by the geologist, and at the same time obtain new data on the prehistoric settlement of this region.

On November 8-12, 2021, we were looking for prehistoric sites in the vicinity of our chocolate flint mine. The preliminary results are very promising and confirm human activity in the microregion in the Mesolithic period. There are also more and more stands with chocolate flint products around the mine.

From July 20 to August 30, 2020, excavations were carried out in the area of the prehistoric chocolate flint mine Poręba Dzierżna 24 in the Udorka Valley. The work on the site was attended by: PhD Magdalena Sudoł-Procyk, M.Sc. Magdalena Malak, M.Sc. Tadeusz Wiśniewski, M.Sc. mgr Jan Wiejacki and students from the Institute of Archeology of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. Were subject to the supervision of the Forestry Olkusz.
